Every house is built twice

Before a single foundation is poured, every house we design is built once already, in white card, on a table in our studio.

Walk into the studio on any afternoon and you will find more houses on the tables than people at them. Some are no bigger than a hand, others take up half a desk. They are white, plain and slightly battered from being picked up, turned over and argued about.

Models answer what drawings can't

A plan tells you where the walls go. A model tells you how it feels to walk between them. We build one for every project, early and often, because it shows things a screen hides: how deep a cantilever really reads, where the evening sun will reach, whether a room feels generous or merely large.

Clients understand a model in seconds. They lean in, look through the windows and point at the corner where they want to sit. That is usually the moment the house becomes theirs.
